Our Savings is ZRL's upcoming third album.

Our Savings represents a ripened practice of timbral and textural exploration. Each track creates a complete world -- some narrative, some static -- inviting the listener into a fully fledged journey which nonetheless leaves everything to the imagination. Recorded as part of a Glasner Residency in Edgar Miller’s historic art studio in Chicago, ZRL draws on Miller’s eclectic and cavernous imagination as inspiration for much of the album.

The first three tracks are a suite recorded in succession. “Daylight Savings” is a sustain of rubbing rocks, overtones and stillness. “Remarkable Savings” follows with frenzied sopranino sounds over an off-centered polyrhythmic cello and percussion bop. A galactic hymn completes the suite with “Our Savings.”

“Hardly Slept” is wide awake,  and rhythmically grounded while “ATM” is relief in its dreamscape and charm. Sweet “Butterish” is butter-ish. Insistent and jarring, “Recent Ornithology” shows off the trio’s ability to resonate with each other in the most unexpected ways. Oscillating dyads and double stops finish the album with a passacaglia of sorts in “Telling the Difference Between Us.”

A journey in miniatures, like the stained-glass lined room where it was recorded, Our Savings changes with the light.
